Rarely do we see politicians these days, who are revered by all type of people irrespective of ideologies or faith do they hold. Yes, this was Atal Bihari Vajpayee, 10th Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna and true son of India. He was one of the longest serving politicians who started his career during India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru during 50s and ended his active career in 2005-06. In this short article, we pay a tribute to this great man.

It is said that a poet heart beat for a freedom and creativity. It can’t be kept under prison and told to follow a given path. It is like a rivulet who will find its way to meet its destiny. Same can be said on Mr Vajpayee. A poet by heart, he was one of the people who helped break lot of barriers, whether it is entering into new relations with our estranged neighbour like Pakistan or by giving a helping hand to people of Kashmir. We saw India entering into esteemed club of nuclear nations, which boosted morale of our forces. We also saw India opening up to reforms and privatisation, which helped India in becoming soft superpower. We truly saw a change of era during 1990-2000 after our independence.

A three times prime minister with tenure like 13 days , 11 months and 5 years, we saw a person who can hang on to the cliff and very determined to march ahead. He was one of the rare politicians who was respected by both his party and opposition alike.

Ending this article in his own poem, which he wrote on Pt. Nehru death.

A dream has been shattered, a song silenced, a flame has vanished in the infinite. It was the dream of a world without fear and without hunger, it was the song of an epic that had the echo of the Gita and the fragrance of the rose. It was the flame of a lamp that burnt all night, fought with every darkness, showed us the way, and one morning attained Nirvana.
